Exceeded My Expectations,
I purchased this watch mostly to monitor my heart rate while exercising and to time my workouts.
I first tried out the heart rate feature. Once the watch was strapped onto my left wrist, a brief (5 to 8 second) touch of the metal case with the index figure of my right hand repeatedly produced an accurate heart rate reading. The length of time that reading was displayed seemed about right. This feature works both in both “time of day” and “stopwatch” mode.
The other modes are: Countdown Timer, Activity, Alarm, and Second Time Zone. I haven’t really tried those modes, so I can’t report on how loud the alarm is in Alarm mode and if it would be a suitable backup for a travel alarm clock.
The stopwatch mode also works very well. It displays the elapsed time to the 1/100 of a second (at least up to one hour), which is more digits than I need. But the control of this feature is simple after a quick read of the enclosed manual.
The Indiglo(R) feature works better than in my other watches and thus was a pleasant surprise. This lights up just the digits rather than the whole display and so produces an easy-to-read image in the dark.
All in all, if your needs in a sports watch are fairly simple, you’ll find this watch a very good value.

A Pleasant Surprise. Monitor Works Well,
I’m quite pleased with this strapless Timex model. Lightweight, very readable dial, good basic functionality. Heart rate monitor appears accurate and works well. I bought this Timex model to replace a MIO Breeze which I sent back. The Mio was awkward to use compared to the Timex and the readability of the MIO’s dial was much more problematic than the Timex. The Timex is relatively inexpensive for all it does, looks fine, medium size that should fit most women and men. Being a man that likes large watches, I feel this one is not too small. Comes with an actual “manual” instead of a sheet of paper folded up into little squares. Unlike similar strapless heart monitor watches from other manufacturers that require using both index fingers on the other hand, this one only requires that you touch one index finger to the metal rim. Admittedly, I haven’t had it long enough to comment on durability.

Practical for Moderate Exercise,
I bought this watch to replace a lesser model made by another company that stopped working. This is the second HRM watch I’ve owned that doesn’t require the use of the chest strap. The lack of a chest strap makes this watch more practical for everyday use. It works great for monitoring my heart rate during moderate exercise. However, it is less effective during high intensity training. When you touch the stainless steel face, you are completing an electrical circuit generated by the electrophysiology of your heart. While your skin is designed to complete the circuit, moisture (water and sweat) work just as well. The watch has a built in feature to prevent itself from constantly checking your HR when you sweat profusely via intense exercise. The watch has a lock mode that requires you to reset this function in order to capture your HR. I found that while exercising vigorously (basketball, intense running, circuit training) I sweat enough that this watch will continuously try to measure my heart rate until the locking feature is activated. This is counter-productive to the activity feature which allows you to track calories burned during an exercise by periodically measuring your HR.
However, the solution I’ve found to this problem is simple. I will take the watch off, put it in my pocket or next to my water bottle, and when I want to record my heart rate I will place it on a dry area of my body and touch the stainless steel face. This works very well. Though it may be somewhat inconvenient, I find that it’s very effective and only necessary during high intensity training.
I have not had any problems with the watch during moderate training (bicycling, walking, light jogging, etc.). As long as I’m not sweating profusely, the watch works very well while on my wrist. Excessive movement also makes it difficult to record your HR (i.e. while running), but briefly stopping, 5-8s, is plenty of time to record your heart rate and continue exercising.
Overall I am satisfied with the product. Price point and convenience were the two main reasons I purchased the watch and I’ve been very happy with it so far.

This is a decent watch. It’s fairly cute for a digital, and not too huge.
Its functions are fairly intuitive. I’ve found the water resistance to be
reliable for casual swimming in fresh, chlorinated, and salt water. here is

How To Heart Rate Monitor Watches Work? Basically what it says
how to heart rate monitor watches work?
When your heart pumps, it sends a surge of blood through your body. And, these pulses cause your arteries to expand and contract as the blood surges through. The wrist is a good place to take a heart rate measurement, because the arteries running through it have a definite pulse with each heart beat (that’s why they measure your pulse at your wrist).
With each surge of blood, the electrical conductivity of your wrist changes slightly. Or, maybe the capacitance you exhibit between a pair of electrodes changes. But, the electronic circuits in the watch detect these changes in electrical characteristics and count them over time. This is then extrapolated out over a minute and the resulting signal causes a certain number to be displayed on the screen. This is your heart rate.
Is It Uncommon To Have An Active Heart Rate Of 235 Beats Per Minute? I recently bought my girlfriend of 26 years of age a polar heart rate monitoring watch. She is training herself for a Charity run. She is getting readings as high as 235 beats per minute. We decided to return the watch and exchanged it for a new one thinking the watch must be faulty. None the less the new watch is giving the same results. She is not faint or have any pains but I worry for her. I have recomended she see a doctor just in case. She claims her heart has always had a high beat count even when she tested it on olyptical gym equipment. She is seemingly healthy and can run as far, and longer than I can. Should she worry?
She should see a doctor. Normal heart rates are between 60 (well conditioned athletes can be normal at 40 bpm) and 100 beats per minute. Even with a lot of exercise, the heart rate should stay below 200. You didn’t mention if the rate was during physical activity or during rest. If it was during rest I’d be even more concerned. Either way, she should see a doctor and get a 12 lead EKG at a minimum, to rule out dangerous conditions.
There are medical conditions that can cause an abnomrally high heart rate. One condition is called Wolf-Parkinson-White. Here’s a link with info about it. http://www.act4u.com/zip/ZipCodes.html
While there may be no problem, it would be best to consult a physician.
Where Should Heart Rate Be During Exercise To Maximize Fat Burn? I’m 19 years old, 5’2”, 143.8 pounds. I’m starting an exercise program today to try to lose around 25 pounds or so. I have a heart rate monitor (watch that came with the chest strap) but I’m not quite sure what my heart rate should be at. I just did a workout and my average heart rate was 153bpm, with a max of 188bpm somewhere during the workout. Is this good? If someone could just give me a range of where my average heart rate should be to maximize fat burn that would be super helpful. If it makes a difference, my resting heart rate is typically pretty low, usually around 52bpm.
Your target heart rate during exercise would be between 120 and 160 beats per minute. Read about it here.

Do You Really Need The Chest Strap For Heart Rate Monitor Watches? I’ve started working out w/ a personal trainer. She tells me I must get a heart rate monitor watch WITH the chest strap. She doesn’t feel like the strapless kind give as accurate of read outs. What is your experience? Do you feel like the strapless ones are just as accurate? I don’t mind getting the one w/ the strap but I just thought I’d see what other people’s experiences have been. Thanks!
They are much more accurate than the ones you hold onto on an treadmill of exercise bike. They are great, personal choice.
What Is The Best Heart Rate Monitor For Women? I’m looking to get a heart rate monitor, preferably under $150. What would you reccomend? The features I am looking for are the following:
* NO chest strap (it never stays up)
* Displays calories burned
* Target rate alarms
Hopefully it allows you to input your age/gender/weight to get a more accurate reading.
If you want more features than the basics, reviewers recommend the Polar F11 heart rate monitor as best for most people. Owners like the “Keeps U Fit Workout Program,” which tailors exercise programs to meet personal goals. The Polar heart rate monitor’s OwnZone feature keeps users in their target heart rate, and the OwnCal tracks calories burned. The chest strap and wrist unit are said to be comfortable, but users wish there was a user-replaceable battery in the watch

Looking Best Heart Rate Monitor Watches Review And Buying Guide? Hello Friends,
I am Looking Best Heart Rate Monitor Watches Review and Buying Guide can you please know share with me …thanks in advance
Sportline Duo 1060 Heart Rate Monitor Watch has a nice, large screen, and with the metallic border looks a bit classier than my old Timex. It is loaded with features typical of most other heart rate enabled stopwatches, including a timer, chrono, alarm, etc. and also throws in a few unusual perks like a pedometer.

Tachycardia – Any Heart Rate Watch? I have had tachycardia since I was in 8th grade. it went away in 10th grade. I worked out all the time and lost weight. then my tachycardia came back. I weighed in at 123 at 17 and they put me on beta blockers. I gained tons of weight and my face got all puffy and swollen. I am now 21, I stopped taking the med bc of the huge weight gain and due to the fact beta blockers didnt even help me and gave me anxiety.
I would love to go to the gym and work out but I cant bc just walking up the stairs or down the block my rate can be 160bpm. I dont want to go on meds bc they just make me gain weight and dont help. I have been to many drs ( some say i have p.o.t.s. and some say inapropriate sinus tachycardia) and had tons of work ups nothing helps.
in the past week I have also been getting dizzy through out the day. and low blood pressure. I hate this bc I am so young and nothing is getting fixed. I am also not working now bc i am never feeling right.
Anyone going through the same thing and have any suggestions or comments?
Also I would like to get a heart rate watch to monitor my bpm I am curious to what it is all day. Anyone have a good one? Not too expensive please. I looked online and many of the watches pple said the band needs to be wet like sweaty in order for it to work, but i want to use it throughout the day.
Thanks
I also asked many drs about an ablation and they all said it wouldnt help
aaron me too, I cant stand the heat and I get hot all the time. We sleep with the bedtroom window open at night in the winter no matter how cold it is outside. my hubby doesnt love that but otherwise I go crazy and cant sleep. I was on propranalol too but i stopped it, didnt really help me. Thanks for the suggestions
I’m 31 years old (male), and I have mitral valve prolapse. It often leads to palpitations, premature heart beats (PACs), and the occasional bout of atrial fibrillation. So I know ALL about the types of things you are experiencing. Especially the part about merely walking down the block, or up any stairs. And I have an intolerance to alot of heat, such as hot showers or when the heater is on. Sometimes after waking up, simply standing up out of bed sends my heart into a pounding fit. I’ve learned to deal with it all though. I tend to drink a large quantity of water throughout the day, because I’ve discovered it keeps my heart rate way down. I used to take a beta blocker (Propranolol), but I quit because I’m able to keep my palpitations in check from simply consuming alot of water. It’s just as effective (for me) as the beta blocker I was taking. Especially ice cold water. You ought to try that. Try *downing* a couple glasses of cold water at the onset of your heart racing, and see if you notice (within a couple minutes) your heart slowing down back to normal. Might help, as it does me. Best of luck.
What Heart Rate Monitor Watch? I would like to purchase a good HRM watch that does NOT require a chest strap but one that lets you know if you are in your training zone or not while working out. What watch woud be a good one to purchase? Can you buy ones like this? I dont need anything fancy or too expensive just something that i could use while working out and whilst doing so i would be able to see my heart rate.
Many thanks… Gina
Ive been looking for this for ages, basicallly if you want cheep then go on amazon and get a 60-70$ watch which has a chest strap… yes it looks stupid BUT it is the only way to have a constant heart rate!, ive bought otheers, all others require you to push down on a button and wait for 5 seconds,,,, and then it gives you your heart rate, but by the time it does your hearts prolly already beating less, and you dont wanna be stopping in your workout to check your heart rate! you want to keep going, so the only way to do that is constant heart rate check with a chest strap, i suggest the cheep one on amazon, LOOK INTO IT!

Heart Rate Monitor Watch Reccomendations? I was looking for a heart rate monitor watch to request for Christmas and I am overwhelmed by the selection and prices. I am a runner and I also live an active lifestyle with the gym and walking/biking/hiking etc and so I need a watch that can calculate my calories burned fairly accurately. I don’t need gps or to plug in meals or anything. Just a reliable calories burned calculator. I want to have to fiddle with it as little as possible while exercising too so ease of use is important. That and reasonable pricing. Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated!!! 🙂
There are a ton of options. I’ve personally used both Garmin and Polar and both brands are pretty solid. I’ve also heard good things about Omron and Mio, though. In terms of pricing, what models to get, etc, I’d recommend checking out Heart Rate Monitors USA. That’s where I’ve gotten both my monitors. Their prices are good and they let you shop by feature and price range.
http://www.heartratemonitorsusa.com/
All in all, if I had to pick one type of HRM to recommend for a runner, it would probably be the Garmin Forerunner series. They’re comfortable, offer great monitoring ability, and they’re well-priced.
Could Someone Recommend A Heart Rate Monitor Watch? Im looking for one below the £40 mark and one that is water proof. I was also wondering whether they all have to come with a chest strap ? i have tried to look for myself but places like argos and amazon are very limited on the facts of the watches and don’t explain about the chest strap / waterproof-nes (this is key)
thanks for reading !
I got a heart rate monitor watch off ebay for like a a tener and there is a point on it that you touch with your finger and it reads your heart rate, and its water proof, I think its really good.
Whats Wrong With My Heart Rate Monitor ? I bought the Nike triax C8 HRM watches abt 3 years back, but i only use the HR function for less than 20 times (i think). Recently i started using it for training and it doesnt work well, on and off constantly. So i thought it was the battery problem, but after i changed the battery it doesnt work as well.
how can i fix this ?
The warranty period was over, can i sent back to them repair ?
beside, they selling the heart rate monitor strap separately ? mine was loose.
The watch itself is prob. fine. If it keeps turning on and off it means it’s not getting a constant signal. Either there is a problem with the chest strap or it is not fitting correctly. If it’s loose then tighten it.
Best Heart Rate Monitor? I’m going to be starting p90x in a few weeks and I am looking for a decent heart rate monitor. I want one that i wear around my chest or waist and has a wrist watch monitor. I have seen a few that cost around 80-100 dollars and although I am willing to spend about this, i was curious which heart rate monitors get good reviews. Thanks for your help.
Polar Heart Rate Monitors are the best ones around in my view. They are accurate and the first company to introduce them to the market. There are many models to choose from and most are inexpensive depending on what you need.
This site breaks down the different heart rate monitors by the type of workout and show you which models fit what style of exercise, This way you don’t land up buying something that is overprices or over featured for what you truly need.
Best Heart Rate Moniter Watch? My Dad has A Fib which means his heart beat becomes irregular when it gets to high. And He’s decided to start working out and he makes me nervous so i want to get him a Heart Rate Moniter Watch. It needs to be with in a reasonable price range, and i would like it to be able to warn him when his heart beat gets to high or becomes irregular. And if it had like a velcro pocket on the band for his emergency pill that slows his heart down. I might be dreaming Big but if any suggestions would be great. Thanks
The Omron HR100CN Heart Rate Monitor Watch is comfortable and well ventilated to help you get the most out of your work out. Whether you like to exercise in the sunshine or after dark, the backlight function of the Omron HR100CN Wrist Heart Rate Monitor Watch provides an easy reading of your heart rate measurement, and an alarm can be programmed to let you know when your heart rate is outside the desirable range.
Heart Rate? You know on treadmills and some bicyling machines at the gym, they have sensors you hold on to to measure your heart rate or bloodpressure.
when i was on induction, the lady seemed confused and said it was high when it was 180.
i went on work out yesterday and it was 200 and then i measure 5 mins later on the machine (still running) and it was 99.
is it broken? or is that normal?
It sounds like it was broken – if your heart *was* beating that fast, you’d actually be feeling it leaping about in your chest and it’d actually be hurting.
One of the machines at my gym flips out every so often, one second saying my pulse is 75, the next saying its 189 and I know full well if it were 189, I’d be in a heap on the floor!
Buy a heart rate monitor, one that has a chest strap and watch. If you want to exercise within the whole ‘fat burning zone’ heart rate then that’s the way to go.
Looking For A Watch With Built In Heart Rate Monitor? Does anyone know if there is a good mens sports watch with a built in or arm strap heart rate monitor and calorie counter, that is both reliable and accurate? I like the Garmin 405 series, but would prefer a watch with a built in heart rate monitor/calorie counter or an arm strap. Help!
If you want an accurate heart rate monitor, you’re going to have to go with a chest strap. That’s just the way it is.
And calories are going to be pretty consistent for you based on your weight and distance. You don’t really need that ability built-in to a device, and there’s software after-the-fact (like SportTracks) that can readily calculate calories for you too.
I’d look into the Garmins, but maybe look at things like the 305 (or 310XT) as well.
Can Someone Recommend A Heart Rate Monitor? I’ve decided not to get a polar, b/c I don’t want to have to send it in for battery replacement. I’m torn between a timex and a nike c6. I’m not a runner, so I don’t care about the lap features. Any suggests?
It isn’t entirely necessary to send your Polar in to get a new battery. My riding partner and I take our Polar HRM to the local watch battery place and they’ve replaced the batteries with no problem.
Anyhow, selecting a HRM is really a matter of deciding what features you need and want rather than the brand. For example, if you want a real basic HRM with average and max heart rates, there are lots of choices. If you want to be able to compare your performance from one ride to the next you have a different set of choices. If you want to download all of your data to a computer you have still other choices. If you want a combined altimeter, speedometer, GPS, cadence sensor, etc. you have other choices. Of course, you need to consider if you want it permanently mounted on one bike, or if you need to move it around between bikes (wristwatch style is by far best if you want to use it with multiple bikes).
I’d give all these issues some thought then see what’s out there.
Hope this helps.

Dextrocardia And Heart Rate Monitors? Having been diagnosed with dextrocardia i am trying to find out if i can use a heart rate monitor while at the gym. i have done some internet searches but with no luck. will a heart rate monitor read correctly?
Steve A,
As you must be aware, the term Dextrocardia means that the heart is in the right chest (dextro means right in Latin) rather than in the left chest, as is the usual case. There are various forms of dextrocardia, ranging from a normally configured heart that is positioned further to the right than normal (dextro-position) to so-called “mirror-image dextrocardia,” in which the positions of the heart chambers and major vessels are exactly the reverse of the “normal” arrangement. Chest x-rays and an ECG (echocardiogram) may be used to determine which type of dextrocardia is present. Isolated dextrocardia (i.e. without any other associated heart defects) is a rare condition and occurs with equal frequency in males and females. There are many different types of sports heart monitors. Most are worn as a watch. Some are fitted over the chest whilst ‘working out’ and these are normally able to be mounted to the left or right. Not having any details of the type of dextrocardia that you have, it is not possible to either advocate gym work or not. This should be a matter for you to discuss with your doctor.

Most people in fitness believe that POLAR is the best all around HRM brand. Which POLAR monitor is a more difficult question.
How Do Heart Rate Monitors Work? Like what do they actually detect and how accurate are they?
A heart rate monitor consists of two parts – a transmitter attached to a belt worn around the chest, and a receiver worn on the wrist like a watch. They are very accurate in detecting your heart rate.
As the heart beats, an electrical signal is transmitted through the heart muscle in order for it to contract. This electrical activity can be detected through the skin. The transmitter part of the heart rate monitor is placed on the skin around the area that the heart is beating, and picks up this signal. The transmitter then sends an electromagnetic signal containing heart rate data to the wrist receiver which displays the heart rate.
Simple heart rate monitors may only show you the heart rate at a given time. More elaborate monitors are available that not only shows the heart rate, but can be set to record time, calculate average and maximum heart rate for an exercise period, and can sound an alarm when a runner reaches or exceeds a pre-determined target heart-rate zone..
An Affordable Heart Rate Monitor? I am looking for a way to track my heart rate while I exercise. I am pregnant and it’s imperative that I don’t let my heart rate go over 120, so I really need something small, like a watch, that can help me with this. I can’t spend more than $20. Thank you for all your answers, please attach links if possible!
Thanks!
Sorry I couldn’t find any under $20 but I did find one that was $25

Companies For Heart Rate Watches? I live in Canada and I trying to buy a heart rate watch. I know Polar makes great heart rate watches but I don’t think they are available in Canada. Are there any good companies that make good heart rate watches? I am looking at Timex but is it a good company?
Yes, you will be quite happy with a Timex heart rate monitor. This is very simple technology now days. Get a nice cheep one. You will tire of it quite soon, I use a $7 stethoscope & watch, myself.
Should I Get A Heart Rate Monitor……….? I run about 3-4 times a week and I lately got the nike plus chip, which is pretty fun.
Anyway, i’m now thinking about getting a cheap polar watch……do you think it’s worth it? cause I’m afraid I’ll stop using it after a few runs cause it will get annoying and who know if I’ll follow what my heart beat says…
I would stick with the Nike+ unless you should either monitor your heart rate because of a physical problem or need it for serious training such as getting into race shape for peak performance. Heart rate is the best indicator for short intervals since it lets you know when to run the next interval when your heart rate reaches 120 heart beats per minute. This alone is worth a heart rate monitor for milers or serious runners since your rapidly increase your fitness by training this way since it will train your body to adapt to the stress and improve running at your maximum. Remember your heart does not lie so it’s a great tool to listen to….

Upload The Data From Heart Rate Monitor Watch On The Net? 1. Are there any types of heart rate monitor watch can upload the data on the net?
2. Are there any web-site offering the services of saving and analytic?
Most heart rate monitors should come with software that can be uploaded onto your computer. the best way to get it online is by using the trainingpeaks program. it is a coaching program used by most of the cycling community. go to http://www.trainingpeaks.com for more info.
as for a good heart rate monitor i’d say go with a polar, but if you’re looking to add a power meter later look at the cyclops power tap, because it has both heart rate and a power meter built in. training with a power meter and heart rate is the ideal way to train these-a-days.

My Heart Rate Monitor? How do i read and use a heart rate monitor? i heard it depends on the quality of the heart rate monitor your using, so let’s say i buy a top of the line heart rate monitor. how do i use it to keep me motivated?
Heart rate monitors give us another way to regulate the intensity of our cardie workouts. Normally time and distance are big factors. But with a heart rate monitor one can watch that a level of intensity is maintained by looking at the heart rate. Each person has maximum heart rate and this is based on your age and weight. If you want to burn fat than you work out in the fat-burning zone of 70%-80% of your maximum. Now if you want to improve your cardie than you work out in the cardie zone of 80%-90% range. This method really goes a long way towards preventing you from over exerting yourself.

Heart Rate Monitors Or Calorie Counter Watches For Swimming!? Since the summer has almost arrived i plan on swimming everyday. I know that there are watches out there that monitor calories burned and your heart rate while you are exercising but is there any inexpensive watch that is good for swimmers? The watches that i have found require you wear a chest strap so i didn’t know if there was an alternative route out there. Please help!
To measure the heart rate i think you might need the strap around the chest or at least around the arm and im not sure if they have one inexpensive, and yes they have the watches like this:http://www.amazon.com/Highgear-Pedometer-Calorie-Counter-Chronograph/dp/B000FZ1WS4
but really i dont know about the heart rate =/ sorry but maybe this can help give an estimate of how many calories you’re burning:

I love my Garmin 305. Its a little dated now but it has all the functions anyone would ever need. They are out of production now but you can still buy them at overstock.com
It has a GPS in it and great software for developing interval training programs. So it might be more than you need

If you don’t need GPS but stil want a good watch with lots of functions, the timex zone trainer is only about 60.
Best Heart Rate Monitor Watch? My boyfriend is massively into running, not paticularly long distance (although he does this once a week) but more sprinting and interval training. He loves keeping fit in general and i keep hearing him talk to his friends about heart rate monitor watches! now im completely clueless but would love to buy him a really nice one for his birthday, but i have no idea where to start? What make is best? what should i look out for? I know he wouldn’t like anything too big and bulky as he has really small wrists, please help
You can look up heart rate monitors online and look for reviews (review heart rate monitor)…if you get him one, get one with the chest strap as it will automatically send his heart rate to the watch so all he has to do is look at it to get a reading, not hold his finger on the edge for the watch to take a reading (many of that type don’t work well while you’re moving around)…
I bought mine at Wal-Mart for about $50 or less, nearly 2 yrs ago…I’ve gotten lots of use out of it, and wear it 4 or 5 days a week when working out…
Tachycardia – Any Heart Rate Watch?
Is The Nike+ Watch So Heart Rate Monitor? I’m trying to do some research myself and all I keep seeing is a relationship between the watch and some polarlink heart monitor thing. So can the watch by itself monitor my HR or do I need the polarlink for it to work?
The watch can not measure your heart rate beat itself, usually a heart rate monitor watch is coming with a chest strap, with frequency from 110khz, 5.3khz to 2.4G coded, 2.4G frequency is more stable but much expensive, well i have my 5.3khz heart rate monitor watch from Amazon, here is it:http://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Calories-Pedometer-Distance-Stopwatch/dp/B00GD6VHOS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1386571777&sr=8-2&keywords=dreamsport
Heart Rate Monitor Question? Hi,
I’m interested in buying one heart rate monitor and I have a very basic newbie question.
What is the difference between analog and digital heart rate monitor?
Thanks
Analog transmission uses signals that are exact replicas of a sound wave or picture being transmitted. Digital transmission converts these signals into a binary code (0s and 1s). Digital is the newer technology.
Analog transmitters are usually compatible with the cardio machines at the gym. That’s the main advantage of the analog system.
The main advantage of a digital transmitter is it less likely to run into interference from someone else’s cardio machine, overhead power lines, or someone else’s heart rate monitor. Say for example you’re running with your friend who also wears an analog heart rate monitor. Sometimes the signals can cross, which means you’re getting his data, and he’s getting yours. This is known as “Cross Talk.” With a digital monitor, the transmission gets encoded, so you’re only getting your data. The disadvantage is some digital systems aren’t compatible with gym equipment.
All things equal, I would personally choose a digital system. You can always wear your heart rate monitor watch to the gym and keep an eye on your heart rate that way, just as you would when you’re out running the roads.
I will say, especially if you’re a female (which I am guessing is the case from your avatar), the most important thing is to try on the chest strap. Some are more comfortable than others. I personally like the Polar straps better than Timex.
Hope this helps.
