Best Display and Very Repsonsive,
This is my fourth HRM and by far the best. The display is big and very readable even in dim light without using the indiglo. My last two HRMs were the older model Timex Ironman 100 lappers. They became very unreliable even with new batteries. I used to have to use electrode gel just to get them to work at all. This HRM gives me an accurate reading immediately and continues to do so as my heart rate changes during my workout. It works great even without electrode gel. It doesn’t have any fancy features but I don’t need them. It does record your time in the zone that you can set and you average and peak heart rates. It also has a recovery time feature that measures how many BPM your HR drops in one minute. The sensor belt will also work with the HR display most treadmills and other indoor machines. This HRM has already improved my training significantly because it is so accurate and responsive. I highly recommend it.

The Timex T5G971 A Perfect Choice,
If you are looking for a heart monitor which is easy to use and very accurate this is the one for you. I am 53 y.o. in cardiac rehab. A similar Timex model was one of the HR monitors recommended by the rehab staff. However after much comparison shopping, this monitor had additional features including calorie counting, target heart rate beep which you activate if you want it on and indigo light. The strap is very light and comfortable. It is also extremely accurate and it comes with a user replacement battery. I just love it.

What Heart Rate Monitor Strap Will Work With My Timex 585? (I Lost The Original Strap).? I have a Timex 585 Heart Rate Monitor watch. I lost the heart rate monitor strap and couldn’t find the information on the timex website. I’d like to buy a replacement strap.
I also looked at their site and couldn’t find anywhere where they sold parts. I’d suggest calling their customer service line Phone: 800-448-4639 or dropping them an email ( custserv@timex.com ). Looks like the band is pretty specific to the watch (not like others where you can buy a replacement at Wal-Mart).
How To Find Your Heart Rate And Know Your Rate For Fat Loss? During cardio activities, like karate, I’m told to have your heart rate at a certain percentage. What percentage is right for fat loss during cardio activities?
How do I figure out my max. heart rate?
How do you figure out your heart rate without a heart rate monitor (like the belt or watch thingys). I think you count the times your heart beats for 6 seconds and multiply it by 10.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Best Watch To Monitor Heart Rate And Distance? Im looking for a watch that is cheap but not too cheap. and is good quality to measure the heart rate and distance travelled and ofcourse time. 🙂 best answer with link to item please
Hi.I found that the Garmin Forerunner 305 watch is the best for keeping track of heart rate & distance.
Are Heart Rate Monitors Accurate? How accurate are heart rate monitors when it comes to calories burned?
I wore my heart monitor while watching a scary movie and it showed that my heart rate was beating faster than when I run. Does this mean I’m getting a better workout and burning more calories by being scared than by doing cardio?
Heart rate monitors are usually very accurate devices for measuring heart rate. Thet can also make a good paper weight if they’re the right model. However, for anything else having to do with biometrics, they’re worthless.
The calorie expenditure features of ellipticals, treadmills, heart rate monitors, etc. are only accurate by accident. They all rely on norms to calculate their data. If you don’t fit the norms, their data will be inaccurate. In the case of the heart rate monitors, they don’t know anything about your stroke volume, your blood volume, your metabolic rate, etc. so they cannot provide you with personalized data. Just as with the impedance scales which are supposed to give you an indication of your percent body fat, the extra feature has more to do with selling the product than it does with its function as an instrument. In short, that feature is a gimmick.
You would be wise to use the proper instruments for measuring whatever it is you want to measure. Buy a heart rate monitor for measuring heart rate. For calculating your caloric expenditure you may as well just use websites such as this one —> http://www.calculator.net/weight-loss-calculator.html
Good luck and good health!!

Do I Need A Heart Rate Monitor Watch? My brother was a cross country/track athlete and has a bunch of trophies/medals and he never used a heart rate monitor. His best time in 3 miles back in highschool was 16 mins, he won first place in regionals that one time. I dont know what grade he was in at the time.
For a 3 mile run you’re mostly training an anaerobic metabolism.
Heart rate monitors are most useful for people trying to lose weight by maintaining target rates (to keep them from getting injured or overexerting).
They can also be used to monitor, track and help develop Aerobic, Anaerobic and Lacate thresholds. However they tend to become unreliable as the temperature goes up. How scientific do you want to be for your training?
No you don’t need one — but they are nice to have if you decide you want to train for longer races and need to control your pacing. E.g. 10K, 1/2 and full marathons.
I suggest you avoid the Polar garbage if you decide to buy one. I’ve destroyed 2 of these already but got them replaced via warranty — the best bang for the buck are the Timex heart rate monitors for 1/4 the price and twice the reliability/water resistance.
Should I Get A Heart Rate Monitor? I’m into fitness and timing and all that.
But I don’t know if I should get a heart rate monitor.
I don’t really understand what it does.
What does it do? I need as much detail as possible.
Thanks
Danny Dreyer, author of Chi-Running is about the only running guru I know of that is against Heart Rate Monitors. He thinks it’s best to just listen to your body. That by paying attention to your body and not a bunch of gadgets you can tell more about your body than any gadget can. People have off days and if you paid attention only to a HRM you might over do it by trying to keep your Heart Rate in the right zone, as opposed to just running at a pace that feels good.
However, I have a HRM and I’m really happy with it. My main concern is that when I’m running and daydreaming I have a tendency to slow down. I also wanted to make sure I would push myself but not over do it.
So the basic Heart Rate Monitor has a watch part and a strap that goes around your chest. The watch part is a pretty good sports watch but it also displays your heart rate.
I’m simplifying things, but the idea is that we can determine our Maximum Heart Rate, and that we can benefit by running in certain zones. For instance, it is generally understood that running at 65% of the max is really good for weight loss and that running at 85% is anaerobic.
Most HRM watches have a way of inputting your max HR and then can display what % you are at.
Good HRMs will till you at the end of your workout what your Max HR was, what your average was, and some will even show you how many minutes you were in each Zone.
Really Good HRMs will have interval timers, and alarms. So you could set it to beep after 5 minutes to let you know when your warm up is over. Or you could set it to beep if your heart rate goes too high or too low.
The best HRMs will have some kind of computer interface and will automatically log your runs and graph them. Also computer interfaces are the best way to program complicated interval training programs.
When you start looking at the best HRMs you will find they have GPS built in. It turns out that having a GPS HRM watch gives you the most flexibility in programming runs and looking at computer graphs and displays.
Mostly you will find runners with GPS HRMs. In gym the GPS is useless. But the HRM is still very useful. On the treadmill and elliptical a HRM watch means you can let go of the handles and swing your arms. Plus you get a log of your activity.
I’ve tried low end Polars and Timexes. They are both adequate. The Timex “Trainer” line is about $100. I like them because they have good interval timer features.
I ended up getting a Garmin 305. The 305 has a lot of features and doesn’t cost as much as the newer models.
There is a blog called DC Rainmaker where a guy talks about HRMS and GPSs. He has compared a lot of the models and it’s worth checking out.
Should I Get A Heart Rate Monitor……….? I run about 3-4 times a week and I lately got the nike plus chip, which is pretty fun.
Anyway, i’m now thinking about getting a cheap polar watch……do you think it’s worth it? cause I’m afraid I’ll stop using it after a few runs cause it will get annoying and who know if I’ll follow what my heart beat says…
I would stick with the Nike+ unless you should either monitor your heart rate because of a physical problem or need it for serious training such as getting into race shape for peak performance. Heart rate is the best indicator for short intervals since it lets you know when to run the next interval when your heart rate reaches 120 heart beats per minute. This alone is worth a heart rate monitor for milers or serious runners since your rapidly increase your fitness by training this way since it will train your body to adapt to the stress and improve running at your maximum. Remember your heart does not lie so it’s a great tool to listen to….
Heart Rate Monitors Or Calorie Counter Watches For Swimming!? Since the summer has almost arrived i plan on swimming everyday. I know that there are watches out there that monitor calories burned and your heart rate while you are exercising but is there any inexpensive watch that is good for swimmers? The watches that i have found require you wear a chest strap so i didn’t know if there was an alternative route out there. Please help!
To measure the heart rate i think you might need the strap around the chest or at least around the arm and im not sure if they have one inexpensive, and yes they have the watches like this:http://www.amazon.com/Highgear-Pedometer-Calorie-Counter-Chronograph/dp/B000FZ1WS4
but really i dont know about the heart rate =/ sorry but maybe this can help give an estimate of how many calories you’re burning:

Heart Rate Monitor Watch For Swimming? I am a very committed swimmer and am really getting serious about my workouts. I need a STRAPLESS HRM watch that i can use in the pool to check how hard i’m working. I’ve looked at some products but i’m not sure what to get or if the product will be worth what it is. I’ve seen some brands such as Mio or Polar. Any help?
I think the actual technology in determining your heart rate is pretty standard. The fluctuation in pricing that you see has to do with the materials the watch is made of and the features of the watch.
The more expensive ones will actually plan your workout for you (amongst other features) while the simpler ones will just tell the time and give you your heart rate.
I bought a timex made out of rubber and it works for me just fine! Leather or other fabric based straps would eventually fall apart because of the constant chlorine exposure.
Tachycardia – Any Heart Rate Watch? I have had tachycardia since I was in 8th grade. it went away in 10th grade. I worked out all the time and lost weight. then my tachycardia came back. I weighed in at 123 at 17 and they put me on beta blockers. I gained tons of weight and my face got all puffy and swollen. I am now 21, I stopped taking the med bc of the huge weight gain and due to the fact beta blockers didnt even help me and gave me anxiety.
I would love to go to the gym and work out but I cant bc just walking up the stairs or down the block my rate can be 160bpm. I dont want to go on meds bc they just make me gain weight and dont help. I have been to many drs ( some say i have p.o.t.s. and some say inapropriate sinus tachycardia) and had tons of work ups nothing helps.
in the past week I have also been getting dizzy through out the day. and low blood pressure. I hate this bc I am so young and nothing is getting fixed. I am also not working now bc i am never feeling right.
Anyone going through the same thing and have any suggestions or comments?
Also I would like to get a heart rate watch to monitor my bpm I am curious to what it is all day. Anyone have a good one? Not too expensive please. I looked online and many of the watches pple said the band needs to be wet like sweaty in order for it to work, but i want to use it throughout the day.
Thanks
I also asked many drs about an ablation and they all said it wouldnt help
aaron me too, I cant stand the heat and I get hot all the time. We sleep with the bedtroom window open at night in the winter no matter how cold it is outside. my hubby doesnt love that but otherwise I go crazy and cant sleep. I was on propranalol too but i stopped it, didnt really help me. Thanks for the suggestions
I’m 31 years old (male), and I have mitral valve prolapse. It often leads to palpitations, premature heart beats (PACs), and the occasional bout of atrial fibrillation. So I know ALL about the types of things you are experiencing. Especially the part about merely walking down the block, or up any stairs. And I have an intolerance to alot of heat, such as hot showers or when the heater is on. Sometimes after waking up, simply standing up out of bed sends my heart into a pounding fit. I’ve learned to deal with it all though. I tend to drink a large quantity of water throughout the day, because I’ve discovered it keeps my heart rate way down. I used to take a beta blocker (Propranolol), but I quit because I’m able to keep my palpitations in check from simply consuming alot of water. It’s just as effective (for me) as the beta blocker I was taking. Especially ice cold water. You ought to try that. Try *downing* a couple glasses of cold water at the onset of your heart racing, and see if you notice (within a couple minutes) your heart slowing down back to normal. Might help, as it does me. Best of luck.
Could Someone Recommend A Heart Rate Monitor Watch? Im looking for one below the £40 mark and one that is water proof. I was also wondering whether they all have to come with a chest strap ? i have tried to look for myself but places like argos and amazon are very limited on the facts of the watches and don’t explain about the chest strap / waterproof-nes (this is key)
thanks for reading !
I got a heart rate monitor watch off ebay for like a a tener and there is a point on it that you touch with your finger and it reads your heart rate, and its water proof, I think its really good.

There are many companies who manufacture heart monitor watches. Polar is one of the best known manufacturers and they offer a huge selection. Suunto and Timex are two other companies.
You can buy direct from the manufacturers’ websites or check out the websites of some of the big box stores like Walmart or try Amazon or eBay for a good selection. I’m sure you could also get information about blood pressure monitors at some of the same sources.

Is The Nike+ Watch So Heart Rate Monitor? I’m trying to do some research myself and all I keep seeing is a relationship between the watch and some polarlink heart monitor thing. So can the watch by itself monitor my HR or do I need the polarlink for it to work?
The watch can not measure your heart rate beat itself, usually a heart rate monitor watch is coming with a chest strap, with frequency from 110khz, 5.3khz to 2.4G coded, 2.4G frequency is more stable but much expensive, well i have my 5.3khz heart rate monitor watch from Amazon, here is it:http://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Calories-Pedometer-Distance-Stopwatch/dp/B00GD6VHOS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1386571777&sr=8-2&keywords=dreamsport
What Do You Think Of These Heart Rate Monitors? I need something that will let me know when I am and aren’t in the target zone and is accurate.
Also, how good are these for exercising? Are they comfortable to wear etc?

Most people in fitness believe that POLAR is the best all around HRM brand. Which POLAR monitor is a more difficult question.
Can Someone Recommend A Heart Rate Monitor? I’ve decided not to get a polar, b/c I don’t want to have to send it in for battery replacement. I’m torn between a timex and a nike c6. I’m not a runner, so I don’t care about the lap features. Any suggests?
It isn’t entirely necessary to send your Polar in to get a new battery. My riding partner and I take our Polar HRM to the local watch battery place and they’ve replaced the batteries with no problem.
Anyhow, selecting a HRM is really a matter of deciding what features you need and want rather than the brand. For example, if you want a real basic HRM with average and max heart rates, there are lots of choices. If you want to be able to compare your performance from one ride to the next you have a different set of choices. If you want to download all of your data to a computer you have still other choices. If you want a combined altimeter, speedometer, GPS, cadence sensor, etc. you have other choices. Of course, you need to consider if you want it permanently mounted on one bike, or if you need to move it around between bikes (wristwatch style is by far best if you want to use it with multiple bikes).
I’d give all these issues some thought then see what’s out there.
Hope this helps.
Best Heart Rate Monitor Watch? My boyfriend is massively into running, not paticularly long distance (although he does this once a week) but more sprinting and interval training. He loves keeping fit in general and i keep hearing him talk to his friends about heart rate monitor watches! now im completely clueless but would love to buy him a really nice one for his birthday, but i have no idea where to start? What make is best? what should i look out for? I know he wouldn’t like anything too big and bulky as he has really small wrists, please help
You can look up heart rate monitors online and look for reviews (review heart rate monitor)…if you get him one, get one with the chest strap as it will automatically send his heart rate to the watch so all he has to do is look at it to get a reading, not hold his finger on the edge for the watch to take a reading (many of that type don’t work well while you’re moving around)…
I bought mine at Wal-Mart for about $50 or less, nearly 2 yrs ago…I’ve gotten lots of use out of it, and wear it 4 or 5 days a week when working out…
Heart Rate Monitor Watch Proximity Issue? I have an Oregon scientific SE300 heart rate monitor. It appears to work perfectly when the watch is kept close (less then 30cm) from the chest band, but when walking normally, with arms swinging at a comfortable distance it only reads about half the distance. I’ve been using a treadmill to compare the distance it reads and it is constantly about half the distance.
Is this common to all heart rate monitors or do you think this is a faulty model/product?
Are there any ways to solve this issue, we have tried “forcing” the connection and all other methods stated to make the watch connect to the band, short of rigging up a device to hold the watch close we’re outta ideas.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
It seems to be a problem with the particular model you have. Check out this review which claims that “the syncing was occasionally hit and miss.”: http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/accessories/gadgets/heart-rate-monitors/product/se300-10-36961
“Gadgets” of this sort often don’t preform as well as we expect and have designs which are marginal at best. I had a fairly simple heart rate watch/monitor which gave erratic readings when trying to measure on the fly. I would have to stop walking/running to take a measurement simply because the motion made the contact between metal and skin unstable.
I think you’re probably just stuck with your monitor’s idiosyncrasies but you can always try returning it to the manufacturer and see what happens.
Good luck!

Dextrocardia And Heart Rate Monitors? Having been diagnosed with dextrocardia i am trying to find out if i can use a heart rate monitor while at the gym. i have done some internet searches but with no luck. will a heart rate monitor read correctly?
Steve A,
As you must be aware, the term Dextrocardia means that the heart is in the right chest (dextro means right in Latin) rather than in the left chest, as is the usual case. There are various forms of dextrocardia, ranging from a normally configured heart that is positioned further to the right than normal (dextro-position) to so-called “mirror-image dextrocardia,” in which the positions of the heart chambers and major vessels are exactly the reverse of the “normal” arrangement. Chest x-rays and an ECG (echocardiogram) may be used to determine which type of dextrocardia is present. Isolated dextrocardia (i.e. without any other associated heart defects) is a rare condition and occurs with equal frequency in males and females. There are many different types of sports heart monitors. Most are worn as a watch. Some are fitted over the chest whilst ‘working out’ and these are normally able to be mounted to the left or right. Not having any details of the type of dextrocardia that you have, it is not possible to either advocate gym work or not. This should be a matter for you to discuss with your doctor.

Whats Wrong With My Heart Rate Monitor ? I bought the Nike triax C8 HRM watches abt 3 years back, but i only use the HR function for less than 20 times (i think). Recently i started using it for training and it doesnt work well, on and off constantly. So i thought it was the battery problem, but after i changed the battery it doesnt work as well.
how can i fix this ?
The warranty period was over, can i sent back to them repair ?
beside, they selling the heart rate monitor strap separately ? mine was loose.
The watch itself is prob. fine. If it keeps turning on and off it means it’s not getting a constant signal. Either there is a problem with the chest strap or it is not fitting correctly. If it’s loose then tighten it.
Know Of Any Good Heart Rate Monitor Watches? That won’t break the bank, does what it needs, and is easy to use! Any ideas?
I love my Garmin 305. Its a little dated now but it has all the functions anyone would ever need. They are out of production now but you can still buy them at overstock.com
It has a GPS in it and great software for developing interval training programs. So it might be more than you need
http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/Garmin-Forerunner-305-Wristop-GPS-Unit/2216617/product.html
If you don’t need GPS but stil want a good watch with lots of functions, the timex zone trainer is only about 60.
Upload The Data From Heart Rate Monitor Watch On The Net? 1. Are there any types of heart rate monitor watch can upload the data on the net?
2. Are there any web-site offering the services of saving and analytic?
Most heart rate monitors should come with software that can be uploaded onto your computer. the best way to get it online is by using the trainingpeaks program. it is a coaching program used by most of the cycling community. go to http://www.trainingpeaks.com for more info.
as for a good heart rate monitor i’d say go with a polar, but if you’re looking to add a power meter later look at the cyclops power tap, because it has both heart rate and a power meter built in. training with a power meter and heart rate is the ideal way to train these-a-days.

Do Heart Rate Monitors Work? I am a soccer player. I am going to be training very hard, so I need to know how many calories I am burning to know how many calories I need to eat (so I don’t gain or lose weight). The closest thing I’ve heard of (for estimating calories burned) are heart rate monitors. Do they really work? Also, any other accurate devices to measure calories burned? Thanks! 🙂
You’ve probably seen athletes using a heart rate monitor whenever they work out. A heart rate monitor is a device which tracks your heart rate as you exercise so you can study the records later. This device is no longer just for hardcore athletes. Read on to learn the benefits of using a heart rate monitor watch when you work out.http://goo.gl/LB4gc visit for demo and instruction to use.
Why we need heart rate monitors
Lose Weight Effectively
If weight loss is the primary reason behind your workout, a heart rate watch can help you achieve your goal. Health experts claim that in order to effectively lose weight, you need to raise your heart rate to as much as 70 percent of your maximum heart rate for at least 30 minutes. This pace must be combined with short intervals of higher-intensity exercise in which your heart rate goes up to 90 percent of your maximum heart rate. This type of exercise will ensure that you are burning body fat and not just the carbohydrates in the meal you ate earlier in the day.
Monitor Your Health
A heart rate monitor watch not only helps you keep track of your heart rate but also of your general health. A heart rate monitor allows you to detect health problems that you would not notice otherwise. For instance, you might find your heart rate going up rapidly even though you are just doing light exercises. This is a clear sign that something could be wrong with your health.
Maintain Your Discipline
If you do not have a trainer or coach to keep you disciplined during your workout, a heart rate monitor can be a great substitute. It can tell you when your exercise is falling below your ideal intensity so you can instantly improve your performance.
This answer i think help you to understand heart rate monitor really works.
An Affordable Heart Rate Monitor? I am looking for a way to track my heart rate while I exercise. I am pregnant and it’s imperative that I don’t let my heart rate go over 120, so I really need something small, like a watch, that can help me with this. I can’t spend more than $20. Thank you for all your answers, please attach links if possible!
Thanks!
Sorry I couldn’t find any under $20 but I did find one that was $25

Exercise To Lower Heart Rate? I have a normal heart rate-ish, well, higher end of average. It’s 74-76 bpm for a 20 year old female. I’m not overweight (or have overfat) by any means, and I just would like to not be winded when I go for pretty long runs. I would love to have an “athletic” heart rate, and was wondering how to go about that? I mean I do some form of exercise every day for at least an hour (average two hours a day, and by exercise, I mean I purposely go out of my way to go on for a walk/jog aside from my moderately-very active life) and my heart rate really shocked me when I found out since I would have expected it to be significantly lower, so I guess I’m not working my heart the way I should.
Diet wise, I’m a health freak, organic fruits/vegetables and a serving of lean meat per day. Don’t drink anythinnnggggg but water constantly, and don’t eat anything that has ingredients that I don’t know 100% what it is. I’ve even gone as far as being chocolate, simple sugar, and extra-salt free (adding salt to my food) for about 3 months.
I don’t really understand why I don’t have a lower heart rate…
Exercise suggestions? How hard/long should I do it? And especially, how long do you predict before I might see improvement?
Thanks
Oh, and of course the heart rate I mentioned is my resting heart rate.
According to my doctor, a resting heart rate should be between 60-80. Your resting heart rate is perfectly within the normal range. What matters is your heart rate during exercise but since you sound extremely healthy, you probably have a healthy heart rate during exercise. How are you checking your resting heart rate? If you use a heart monitor watch, you have to keep you arm at a rested level to get an accurate result.
Looking For A Heart Rate Monitor Watch…? Any one recommend a good one for women? (mid price range)
OK I’m a bloke but have used a Mio Ultimate for nearly 5 years and even in -25 (living in Northern China) and haven’t had any issues. It has a finger touch capability for quick checks and all the usual basic requirements. HR /AvgHR/HI-Low HR zones/ Lap/99 Hour SW/Recovery/Calorie estimator and normal watch functions.
Loads of monitors here, also check out Runners World for other recommendations.

If you’d like more information about heart monitor watches in general, here is a link you may find helpful.

Heart Rate Monitor Watches?? I am planning to buy a HRM and plan to use it for mainly jogging. I decided to get the Nike Traix c5 but it has an chest attachement, which i just found out through ebay as i was looking for the best deal…. Can anyone suggest some good HRM’s which also show calories burned, and which do not have those chest attachments???
Every heart rate monitor that actually works uses s chest strap. That’s just the way they work. Anyone that doesn’t is just giving you an estimate. I have a Polar CS3000, it’s fantastic. You’ll get used to strap, it freaked me out at first to.
Companies For Heart Rate Watches? I live in Canada and I trying to buy a heart rate watch. I know Polar makes great heart rate watches but I don’t think they are available in Canada. Are there any good companies that make good heart rate watches? I am looking at Timex but is it a good company?
Yes, you will be quite happy with a Timex heart rate monitor. This is very simple technology now days. Get a nice cheep one. You will tire of it quite soon, I use a $7 stethoscope & watch, myself.
Accurate Heart Rate Monitor Watch Needed!!? Can someone please provide a link or info to a heart rate monitor watch that calculates steps, calories and heart rate with entering in your height and weight? I have a Sportline watch that I bought at Walmart for $100 that doesnt require me entering in my height and weight and I am a little uncertain about the accuracy of the calories burned reading. It uses pulse technology.
Calculating heart rate and calories accurately without a chest strap is next to impossible. I test dozens of heart rate monitors every year and we have eliminated most all of the strapless variety from our website for this reason.
The most accurate monitors we have found for counting calories are Polar heart rate monitors, although Garmin and Suunto use similar formulas.
Your height and weight are, unfortunately, necessary parts of the equation for caloric burn rate.
Adding steps, or distance, to the equation requires accelerometer technology, generally in the form of a foot pod that fits in your shoe or in your shoe laces. You can get a Garmin FR60 with a soft chest strap and a foot pod at the link provided with the answer.
You could also get a Garmin 110 GPS watch that would do everything but steps, it would get distance, but not steps, but the cool part is you can map everything and everywhere you go.
Hope that helps.

Shoud I Get A Heart Rate Monitor? I’m into fitness and timing and all that.
But I don’t know if I should get a heart rate monitor.
I don’t really understand what it does.
What does it do? I need as much detail as possible.
Thanks
Danny Dreyer, author of Chi-Running is about the only running guru I know of that is against Heart Rate Monitors. He thinks it’s best to just listen to your body. That by paying attention to your body and not a bunch of gadgets you can tell more about your body than any gadget can. People have off days and if you paid attention only to a HRM you might over do it by trying to keep your Heart Rate in the right zone. as opposed to just running at a pace that feels good.
However, I have a HRM and I’m really happy with it. My main concern is that when I’m running and day dreaming I have a tendency to slow down. I also wanted to make sure I would push myself but not over do it.
So the basic Heart Rate Monitor has a watch part and a strap that goes around your chest. the watch part is a pretty good sports watch but it also displays your heart rate.
Bear in my I’m simplifying things, but the idea is that we can determine our Maximum Heart Rate, and that we can benefit by running in certain zones. For instance, it is generally understood that running at 65% of the max is really good for weight loss. and that running at 85% is anaerobic.
