Can I Buy A Heart Rate Monitor That Is Compatible The Garmin Forerunner 205? I bought the forerunner 205 about a year ago and i really like it, but now im starting to use heart rate workouts and i don’t want to spend all that money to buy a 305 or 405.
I’ve done some study on the FR 205, but I don’t own one. I have a feeling it has no HR support even if you wanted to upgrade and the product page does not make it obvious either.
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=142&pID=348
If you want a HR monitor with GPS, you might be able to pick up a Forerunner 301 cheaply (under $100 USD) on Amazon or eBay. It has most of the same sports features as the 205, but is quite bulky and the GPS signal quality, weaker.
If you just want a HR monitor with no GPS, then there are plenty of cheap watches around. Like the Timex Ironman T59751 (around $50 USD).
I have a Timex Ironman HR Monitor page on my website, if you want some ideas: http://www.sportswatchinformant.com/timex-ironman-heart-rate-monitor-watch-models-compared
How Do I Reset A Timex Ironman Heart Rate Monitor To Factory Settings? I have the manual and there is nothing in it that describes how to set it back to factory settings. Does anyone on here know how?
You can do it by disconnecting the battery. it will require the use of a very small jeweler’s screwdriver, or a glasses-repair screwdriver to open the back. Take the battery out and let it rest for 10 minutes. Put the battery in and screw the back up
After that everything will be reset. However all data stored will be lost too
Looking For A Watch With Built In Heart Rate Monitor? Does anyone know if there is a good mens sports watch with a built in or arm strap heart rate monitor and calorie counter, that is both reliable and accurate? I like the Garmin 405 series, but would prefer a watch with a built in heart rate monitor/calorie counter or an arm strap. Help!
If you want an accurate heart rate monitor, you’re going to have to go with a chest strap. That’s just the way it is.
And calories are going to be pretty consistent for you based on your weight and distance. You don’t really need that ability built-in to a device, and there’s software after-the-fact (like SportTracks) that can readily calculate calories for you too.
I’d look into the Garmins, but maybe look at things like the 305 (or 310XT) as well.
What’s The Best Heart Rate Monitor Watch For Running? Who makes the most accurate heart rate monitor?
If you get a garmin 305 or 405 with the heart rate moniter it works great
Why Do I Get Easily Winded When I Run? I’m a 20 year old male. I’m not overweight & I don’t smoke or anything like that. I don’t have any heart conditions as far as I know. I used to be able to run without getting winded, but since the end of high school, I get winded really easily. I walk almost everyday, I can do that with no issue. Any tips for me to re-build my endurance? Thank you!
Get a heart rate monitor. $50. I recommend Timex Ironman Monitor with a chest strap.
Get the book Total Heart Rate Training by Joe Friel. Endurance is built, not to be taken for granted or genetically inherited.
1) Build baseline (Aerobic) endurance. Jog at a comfortable conversational pace (Zone 2), 3x per week. 1x per week jog for 30 minutes. 1x per week do a speed workout (400m x 10 –Zone 4-5 — w/2 minutes rest in between).
Increase distance/duration by no more than 10% per week.
2) Building anaerobic endurance requires Zone 4 work as well as more extensive speed work in Zone 5.
Here are some numbers to get you started.
MHR= 220-age.
Zone 1 — walk
Zone 2 — Run easily or walk briskly. 70% of max heart rate. Sustainable for 8-12l hours.
Zone 3 — Run at moderate effort. 80% max heart rate. Sustainable for 2 hours.
Zone 4 — Run at hard effort 90% MHR . Sustainable for 2 hours.
Zone 5 — Run at very hard effort >90% MHR. Sustainable for <1 hour.
Does Cold Surrounding Slow Down Your Heart Rate? My usually do tempo runs (run at panting pace) 3 times week for about 4 to 5km. And my normal resting heart beat is usually around 57-60. Meaured using a heart rate monitor watch.
Recently the air conditioning is colder than it use to be and I have to put on a jacket. I just did a readin several times, and was shock that my resting heart beat is now 47-49. Kinda worrying. Will coldness affect heart rate to drop around 10 bpm?
Yes your heart rate does drop if you are doing nothing in the cold, but your heart rate should be the same if you are performing physical activity in the cold.
There are other variables that affects your hear rate(work load, length of the workout, hydration, etc.)
Where Should Heart Rate Be During Exercise To Maximize Fat Burn? I’m 19 years old, 5’2”, 143.8 pounds. I’m starting an exercise program today to try to lose around 25 pounds or so. I have a heart rate monitor (watch that came with the chest strap) but I’m not quite sure what my heart rate should be at. I just did a workout and my average heart rate was 153bpm, with a max of 188bpm somewhere during the workout. Is this good? If someone could just give me a range of where my average heart rate should be to maximize fat burn that would be super helpful. If it makes a difference, my resting heart rate is typically pretty low, usually around 52bpm.
Your target heart rate during exercise would be between 120 and 160 beats per minute. Read about it here.

Will Timex Heart Rate Monitor T5G971 Interfere With Wireless Cateye Speedometer? I want to add heart rate monitor to my bike rides. I already have a wireless cateye speedometer and wonder if a wireless hrm will interfere with signal. I had a front flashing light that interfered with wireless speedo signal. I might get a garmin 500 but not ready to pay that price if I can get a Timex hrm for $40. Thanks!
I would get an Omron instead. It comes with a mount for the handlebars, cheaper, and very accurate. Never had a problem with a wireless cyclocomputer.

Timex T5J031 Or T5H881 ?? (Heart Rate Monitors)? Which one should i take i found both of them on amazon and they sell for almost the same price, and i could not find a good description of the features of any of them.
so can you tell me what is the difference between the two and if possible a URL link to the features of any of them.
1- http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T5H881-Trainer-Digital-Monitor/dp/B000P0TQC8/ref=pd_sim_a_3
2- http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T5J031-Digital-Fitness-Monitor/dp/B000P8VWRC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=watches&qid=1268683288&sr=1-1
Thank you
They are essentially the same. They have the standard running watch features, including lap, chronograph and HR Zones.
If possible, however, I would buy one from Wal-Mart or Costco with an Amex card(doubles the warranty). At the very least a local sports store. Warranty and the ability to return a ‘defective’ product is very important. (e.g. Water resistant for 30M does not mean leaking in a swimming pool even though you swim 10,000 meters per week.)
What Heart Rate Monitor Watch? I would like to purchase a good HRM watch that does NOT require a chest strap but one that lets you know if you are in your training zone or not while working out. What watch woud be a good one to purchase? Can you buy ones like this? I dont need anything fancy or too expensive just something that i could use while working out and whilst doing so i would be able to see my heart rate.
Many thanks… Gina
Ive been looking for this for ages, basicallly if you want cheep then go on amazon and get a 60-70$ watch which has a chest strap… yes it looks stupid BUT it is the only way to have a constant heart rate!, ive bought otheers, all others require you to push down on a button and wait for 5 seconds,,,, and then it gives you your heart rate, but by the time it does your hearts prolly already beating less, and you dont wanna be stopping in your workout to check your heart rate! you want to keep going, so the only way to do that is constant heart rate check with a chest strap, i suggest the cheep one on amazon, LOOK INTO IT!
What Is The Best Fitness Watch For Me? I am currently looking to buy a new fitness watch but have been a bit confused by all of the different options. I cycle 12km a day and was looking for something to measure heart rate, bpm, cycle time, calories, etc. I also run 3/4 times a week and would like heart rate, bpm, calories, lap times, etc. I would like a fitness watch that can be used for both, that looks quite good, and if possible works on mac os x?
Much thanks in advance.

Heart Rate Monitor Recommendation? I’m looking for a recommendation for heart rate monitor for my cardio exercise, I’m looking for one that has high accuracy in measuring the heart rate and not too expensive.
Polar, Garmin and Timex all have reliable brands, look on-line for all the bells and whistles a model can have to meet your needs. I got a Garmin 301 on Amazon when it wasn’t the newest model, a couple of years older, for under $100 and it will tell me high and average heart rate, speed, distance run even a virtual trainer that will let me know if I am ahead or behind the time I set for a run and will do this across other sports. And it will adjust my maximum heart rate as my condition improves as well as tell me in which heart rate zone I’m training in.
Good luck with your cardio exercise!
Heart Rate Monitor? I want to buy a heart rate monitor, but I dont want a polar, so lets forget about them. I pretty much just need one that counts calories, and cost less than $100. And it has to be one that takes your heartbeat the whole time you wear it, not the ones you have to put your fingers on. Anyone know of any?
I was just looking at a sportline, it was a touch hrm, and it said it counts calories burned. Do you have to hold your fingers on it the whole time your working out, or do you just put your fingers on it at the end of your workout and it somehow knows how many calories you burned.
I dont like polar because you have to send it in to get new batteries. Thats ridiculous.
There’s one made by Timex available at Best Buy for $49.99.

Just curious: Why not Polar?
Heart Rate Monitor Watch Proximity Issue? I have an Oregon scientific SE300 heart rate monitor. It appears to work perfectly when the watch is kept close (less then 30cm) from the chest band, but when walking normally, with arms swinging at a comfortable distance it only reads about half the distance. I’ve been using a treadmill to compare the distance it reads and it is constantly about half the distance.
Is this common to all heart rate monitors or do you think this is a faulty model/product?
Are there any ways to solve this issue, we have tried “forcing” the connection and all other methods stated to make the watch connect to the band, short of rigging up a device to hold the watch close we’re outta ideas.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
It seems to be a problem with the particular model you have. Check out this review which claims that “the syncing was occasionally hit and miss.”: http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/accessories/gadgets/heart-rate-monitors/product/se300-10-36961
“Gadgets” of this sort often don’t preform as well as we expect and have designs which are marginal at best. I had a fairly simple heart rate watch/monitor which gave erratic readings when trying to measure on the fly. I would have to stop walking/running to take a measurement simply because the motion made the contact between metal and skin unstable.
I think you’re probably just stuck with your monitor’s idiosyncrasies but you can always try returning it to the manufacturer and see what happens.
Good luck!

Looking Best Heart Rate Monitor Watches Review And Buying Guide? Hello Friends,
I am Looking Best Heart Rate Monitor Watches Review and Buying Guide can you please know share with me …thanks in advance
Sportline Duo 1060 Heart Rate Monitor Watch has a nice, large screen, and with the metallic border looks a bit classier than my old Timex. It is loaded with features typical of most other heart rate enabled stopwatches, including a timer, chrono, alarm, etc. and also throws in a few unusual perks like a pedometer.

Heart Rate Monitor Watch For Swimming? I am a very committed swimmer and am really getting serious about my workouts. I need a STRAPLESS HRM watch that i can use in the pool to check how hard i’m working. I’ve looked at some products but i’m not sure what to get or if the product will be worth what it is. I’ve seen some brands such as Mio or Polar. Any help?
I think the actual technology in determining your heart rate is pretty standard. The fluctuation in pricing that you see has to do with the materials the watch is made of and the features of the watch.
The more expensive ones will actually plan your workout for you (amongst other features) while the simpler ones will just tell the time and give you your heart rate.
I bought a timex made out of rubber and it works for me just fine! Leather or other fabric based straps would eventually fall apart because of the constant chlorine exposure.
I Want To Buy (max. $300) A Training/heart Rate Watch To Use With Exercise Bike And Jogging. Any Suggestions? Is the Polar F55BR any good? What kind of features are must have/nice to have? I don’t need to pay $300, but will if it is worth it. I am not an athlete, but just a regular guy that wants to monitor heart rate, calories burned, etc. There may be features out there I don’t know about that I would like or want. Any help is appreciated!
Polar makes fine products, but why spend $300 if you don’t need all the special features.
I was like you…an average guy looking for a dependable HRM that would give me all the information I needed to stay fit. I really didn’t need to have fancy features with computer interfacing blahblahblah…
After doing my homework, I found this and couldn’t be happier:

This is a user-friendly HRM that won’t break the bank. Easy to personalize for your size & fitness. Instruction booklets give all the set-up steps and full explanation of features, in addition to techniques for helping you determine your personal maximum HR. It gives readouts on current HR, avg HR, peak HR, min HR. The “review” indicates the total time as well as the time you remained in whichever target zone you’ve selected. It also shows the total calories burned during your workout. Lap splitter, timer, Indiglo, etc. There are also a variety of combinations you can have displayed, so you’re not limited to just chrono/HR. Not only is it easy to setup, it’s also easy to change the settings as your weight/condition changes.
I’ve been using mine at least five or more days per week for almost five months now. I’ve had no problems whatsoever. It has functioned perfectly & accurately without glitches. The chest strap is comfortable and is water (and sweat) resistant. The watch and the chest strap both have batteries that are easily changed by the user when replacement time comes. It also looks passable for all-day wear, if you don’t mind wearing a digital watch.
The watch lists @ $90, but there is/was a seller offering them for $60ish. I think some Target stores also stock it for about $70. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
About Heart Rate Monitors? Hi just need to now the adventages of a timex heart rate monitor plz answer
Running is basically about training the heart and you can do that more effectively with a heart rate monitor. Having your heart beat at certain percentages of your maximum heart rate trains it most efficiently. Also it is easier to tell if you are doing too much which can lead to injury or burn out.
How Do I Run A Faster Mile? In one year, I will be taking the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA). I ran my first timed mile (no joke) today, and my score was abysmal; it was about 10 minutes with walking breaks. I have never ran or participated in a running sport before, and I was wondering how I can get that mile to at least 7 minutes in a year.
Mark has the right idea. But I think you would like more specific instructions. What I might be suggesting is overkill but you can glean what you want.
I think you should train this year with what is called interval training. there are a bunch of ways to do it but I am a big proponent of the couch to 5 K running program (C25K). It’s a walk to run program and its one of the best.
The C25K program slowly increases your effort over 9 weeks. I did it and I really liked the fact that I could see each week I was making progress and I never really felt like it was too hard.
You will have to get a sports watch that can be programmed to do intervals. I really like Timex watches; the trainer line is pretty good. And some of them have Heart Rate Monitors which is a nice way of monitoring your effort. Casio makes a interval timer that’s simple and inexpensive, W756-1A, you can find it at amazon for $20. Or buy a Gymboss for $20. All the Gymboss does is time intervals, but its real simple to use and program.
If you have an iPod, you can download a podcast that is the couch to 5 K program and you won’t even need a watch. And if you have an iPod touch or iPhone, you can download the Interval Run app for $2. It is easy to use and is pre-programmed with the C25K and several other programs.
If you have an iPod I recommend the Nike+ kit that will monitor and record your mileages and times.
If you’re really thinking of getting a heart rate monitor, and you don’t have an iPhone, then take a bigger plunge and get a GPS Heart rate monitor watch. They have the interval timers built in, and you can monitor both your distance and your effort. I like the Garnin 405.
Once you graduate from the C25K program they have other programs that are more advanced. I still do intervals once in a while. A lot of runners do them once a week. So you can plan on using your timer for a long time.

An Affordable Heart Rate Monitor? I am looking for a way to track my heart rate while I exercise. I am pregnant and it’s imperative that I don’t let my heart rate go over 120, so I really need something small, like a watch, that can help me with this. I can’t spend more than $20. Thank you for all your answers, please attach links if possible!
Thanks!

How Does Wearing A Heart Rate Monitor Helps Me To Lose Weight? And do anyone know a really good one for lets say 40 dollars
What a heart rate monitor does is allow you to know when you are in a target cardio range which is at least 80% of your maximum it will monitor how long you were in that range and warn you when you go above or below the range you set, it is a very is usefull tool for cardio! I use the timex ironman it cost about $75 through amazon.com there are cheaper ones but you get what you pay for, good luck
Best Heart Rate Monitor? I’m going to be starting p90x in a few weeks and I am looking for a decent heart rate monitor. I want one that i wear around my chest or waist and has a wrist watch monitor. I have seen a few that cost around 80-100 dollars and although I am willing to spend about this, i was curious which heart rate monitors get good reviews. Thanks for your help.
Polar Heart Rate Monitors are the best ones around in my view. They are accurate and the first company to introduce them to the market. There are many models to choose from and most are inexpensive depending on what you need.
This site breaks down the different heart rate monitors by the type of workout and show you which models fit what style of exercise, This way you don’t land up buying something that is overprices or over featured for what you truly need.
Timex GPS Running Watches? I need to buy a GPS running watch, it has to be timex, so don’t recommend a different brand. I run cross country, so I need a watch that will tell me distance, pace, and time. (I don’t really care about heart rate) I was wondering if anyone can recommend a watch OTHER THAN THE GLOBAL TRAINER. Also, do you have to use a clip on thing for the distance to work? Will it work if I don’t wear the heart rate monitor?
Thanks

Unfortunately Global Trainer GPS is the only GPS running watch that Timex offers. However Timex offer another running watch – Timex Bodylink System that track heart rate, speed & distance with external contraption (a sensor) that works together with the watch. You can look that up, the model number is TX589-T5C391.
HRM strap is usually worn at a different location so the answer is Yes, it work even without wearing the HRM.
hope it helps.
Timex T5J031 Or T5H881 ?? (Heart Rate Monitors)? Which one should i take i found both of them on amazon and they sell for almost the same price, and i could not find a good description of the features of any of them.

Thank you
They are essentially the same.
What Is A Good Heart Rate Monitor Watch? That won’t break the bank, does what it needs, and is easy to use! Any ideas?
Wrong category. This is for Computer Monitors, NOT heart Rate monitors.

Watch For Interval Training With Heart Rate Monitor Strap? Please help
I am looking to do circuit training so need a watch that will work for interval training ie two minutes excercise, one minute rest etc etc
But will also work out my calories burned via the HRM
Whats the best one out there? Budget set at £50 – £150
Anyone? I was hoping to get on today
Thanks
I would take a trip to your local running shop – there are a few models there that do this.
Look for Garmin, Times, Suunto, and so on. For £50 you should get what you want.
The other thing to look for might be a Garmin Forerunner 305 which is a GPS watch (tracks your speed and distance, as well as HRM) and should be about £150, or just a touch more, or a Timex or Suunto foot pod system (watch, foot pod, HRM, etc). (OK cheapest I have seen so far for the Forerunner 305 is £169 from Natterjacks in Southport – ask your local shop if they can match that – I like these).
