The 1930s brought unprecedented innovation in machine-age technology and materials. Industrial designers from the auto industry translated the principles of aerodynamics and streamlining into everyday objects like radios and toasters. It was also a decade when an unequaled variety of watch cases and movements came into being. In lieu of hands to tell time, one such complication, called a jumping mechanism, utilized numerals on a disc viewed through a window. With its striking resemblance to the dashboard gauges and radio dials of the decade, the jump hour watch was indeed “in tune” with the times! The Stauer 1930 Dashtronic deftly blends the modern functionality of a 21-jewel automatic movement and 3-ATM water resistance with the distinctive, retro look of a jumping display (not an actual jumping complication). True to “Machine Art” aesthetics, the sleek brushed stainless steel case is clear on the back, allowing a peek at the inner workings. The 1 ½” case is complemented with a black alligator-embossed leather band. Fits wrists 7″”8 ½”.

I hope you have good eyes! I just had to have this unique watch, but there is one thing about owning it that I wasn’t prepared for. I need cheaters to read anything close-up these days, which means that I generally can’t see the numbers on the dials! I’m not saying they’re small or illegible — if I had found this watch 10 years ago, I’d have had no trouble reading it. If you wear bifocals (or if you still have youthful 20/20 eyes), this is a great watch. It does take a second longer to read than a regular analog…
As expected and as Pictured Watch is just as described and pictured, Was easy to use the hack manual hand wind to get it up and running quickly which is also a plus since I don’t put a watch on the auto winder unless very complicated to start up and set such as my Frederique Constant Run About. Watch is pretty basic on material and quality. But this came with a nice basic black leather strap and does look classic. Expedition case back is nice but nothing special since nothing to show off. All in all for the price very…
Great watch.
